This morning I opened my email to a terrible sight; the closing of T-Shirt Hell. there are too few sites that push the limit on what they share with their community, and to lose one of the greatest un-wavering e-retailers is a devastating blow to the internets as a whole.

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009Google Friend Connect
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008Fans of OpenID will be excited to read about this:
We’re pleased to share that Google Friend Connect is now available in beta to any webmaster looking to add a “dash of social” to his or her site. This service lets webmasters add social features to their sites by simply copying and pasting a few snippets of code — no advanced coding or technical background required.
We know that people want to be social on the web, and Friend Connect makes it easy for anyone to sign in to a website, share a little bit about themselves through a personal profile, discover other people with similar interests, invite their contacts, and interact with friends. Even better, you don’t have to deal with the hassle of creating yet another username and password — Friend Connect lets you log in using an existing account from Google, Yahoo, AOL, or OpenID. Similarly, you can choose to either establish a new profile or use profiles and friend sources from other social networks that have opened up their services, like Plaxo and orkut.

Microsoft to challenge Steam
Thursday, November 13th, 2008“Speaking in an interview with Shacknews, Games for Windows Live general manager Chris Early confirmed that Microsoft has definite plans to distribute full PC titles through its Marketplace application in the future.”

Also, before Steam was created, they apparently pitched the idea to both Microsoft and Yahoo, but both rejected: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/microsoft-and-yahoo-rejected-steam-says-valve

A long time coming…
Monday, June 9th, 2008ok, I realize it has been a long time coming, and that those of you subscribed or randomly coming upon this page have long given up hope of my return. For this loss of whatever it was that intrigued you in the first place, I am sorry, I have not forgotten about this site or you guys, and I will return in full strength; probably when I return to the states and get settled.
Some tid bits that cover what I have been up to since we last chatted:
School: Almost finished with this whole abroad thing, it was fun but I am looking forward to returning home.
Age of Conan: The first MMO with bare breasts… need I say more?
Mass effect: Lesbian alien love scandal, fox thought it news worthy, I thought it was quite funny.
spec’ing a new system: all the PC I will need for at least another year. I will post actual specs when I purchase it.
finding work: I need a job, if anyone has offers let me know!
finding board: and room, anybody that can support my ass for a few months until I get on my feet can reply here w/ A/S/L.
so yeah, sorry for the absence, life has been kind of hectic in between my gaming.
I will be returning, possibly with a whole new site for the times… as the plan was to set up some kind of net broadcasting thing where we could host our own shows and let you guys get them, more on that when it matures.
So until my inevitable return, play more games!

theme change on the way
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008I think that the current layout is not “techy” enough as the only tech is in the title bar and a few custom graphics I pulled outta photoshop.
the idea was to first create something reminiscent of a bios, but blue was drilling into our skulls and making our eyes bleed… so I changed it to a dark red. let me know if it is too dark or ugly or whatever.
keep your comments constructive, as I dont at all believe I am awesome at design and could use any help I can get.
follow the forum link to add to the discussion or leave simple comments here.
thanks
Wednesday’s Gaming news
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008Another Wednesday is upon us and as with every Wednesday there is news in the air… albeit not as much news as I would have liked, it seems that some AAA console title is coming out this week and if you are the all purpose gamer that I would think you are then you should already be in line waiting to pick it up. This game is of course GTAIV and as it is more likely than not to reach PC shores I will admit that I am excited for this game, but I cannot play it due to my lack of consoles and current overseas location. Pity come my way, all of you with the resources to play this game had better play it, play it good!

Gaming and Hardware News Update
Thursday, April 24th, 2008Welcome back folks, I’ve been out of it for a while now and I apologize. I plan on making it up to you by offering one of my new more condensed and only what matters version of the News. the idea is that instead o f digging around for all the news which mostly sucks I will only pull the news that I saw as important for the genre. This will probably help to drive a focus to this site, as being the only contributing author can be taxing on a newbie like myself.

Midterms finished.
Thursday, April 24th, 2008expect news tomorrow (my time) so your evening.
I’m going to sleep now and I will post first thing when I wake.

Site update…
Sunday, April 20th, 2008This is my first returning post from my break, I know I said that I wouldn’t post until next week but oh well I am doing nothing right now and can stand to post. I am still feeling around with the layout and presentation so i am open to comments on how it the site is looking and feeling to you. If you would like to see a function that currently doesn’t exist let me know and I can try and implement it. I am also working on a lighter theme and an Ajax theme switcher so you don’t have to be stuck looking at this dark melodramatic theme I currently have set up; if you know of a good color scheme that you want me to try let me know and I can give it a go.
I am also considering adding reviews to the site as well, for PC games and hardware that we here at GamersBeyond personally use in our systems or have had the pleasure of using for the site. There are many ways to go about reviews. We could simply state the pros and cons, or stats and specs, and then follow it with a recommendation by whoever writes the article. Or we could discuss it as a group and each of the ones discussing it may in the end either recommend it or disqualify it as they see fit. and then as a bonus we could put some sort of scoring mechanism in place for users to easily see what we thought about the game or hardware overall. I am also open to posting a cast of sorts with our reviews… but I must discuss this with the others as they would have to participate to make it successful. The news sections currently hardware and games, I think need to be re-planned. currently I subscribe to feeds and read news every day to keep up with the times, when I see something that I think would fit well with the theme of the page I put it aside so I can refer to it later when writing the article. It just seems that this is creating a lot of unnecessary mess in the news. If you look at the last read more sections there are a lot of damn articles; so I think I will start narrowing the articles I pull from down to some specifics. So I would then focus on news and reviews of games or hardware that I find interesting. But I can then link to my Google reader account where you can check out all of the articles whether or not I included them in my article, though you may also be subject to random articles of design or console nonsense. Is there anything else you can think of that needs to change? Let me know in the comments or email me from the side link or at blogadmin[at]gamersbeyond[dot]com. Sorry for the interrupt of actual content, and I hope that you will still check back with us periodically. Thanks for reading. -Shegs
